The Trust recently produced a smart new leaflet about West Coast Seabirds, introducing visitors and locals alike to the seabirds they might get a glimpse of on or close to our coast. (Photo by Kerry-Jayne Wilson)
You might also have noticed that we have added a new heading to our web pages, and all the seabird information can be found there too – http://www.bluepenguin.org.nz/west-coast-seabirds/
Author and Trust Chair, Kerry-Jayne Wilson, describes the Sooty Shearwater as the consummate seabird. They can dive to depths of 60m and travel vast distances; they have been recorded feeding as far south as the Antarctic pack ice, returning to feed chicks in New Zealand. For other fascinating facts, check out the new web page, or, if you’d like some copies of the leaflet, perhaps for guests at your visitor accommodation or facility, please get in touch: info@bluepenguin.org.nz.
