Trust volunteers recognised

Trustpower Community Awards LogoThe volunteers who have created, developed, driven and supported the West Coast Blue Penguin Trust were acknowledged this evening when they won the Heritage and Environment Award at the Grey District Trustpower Community Awards.

Volunteers are the key to the Trust’s achievements, largely due to the Trustees who contribute so much time progressing the objective of the Trust to protect blue penguins and other seabirds, and their habitat here on the West Coast.

Many projects have been initiated and developed by Trustees to better understand the threats to penguins, and then to raise awareness among coasters of those threats, which are notably vehicles and dogs, and then to implement actions to help protect penguins.

Supporting the Trustees in the background are many more volunteers who support the Trust and its work in numerous ways, offering technical expertise and time, taking part in the census, reporting penguin and seabird related issues, advising on local concerns and much more.

So this is a great opportunity to shout a very big thank you to you all – THANK YOU!  We couldn’t do it without you!

PS -and thank you to the anonymous person who nominated the Trust!
