Kaniere School raises awareness

Kaniere leaflet image for webKaniere School students have been studying penguins and decided everyone else should know about them too.

The children, led by teachers Zoe Watson and Kristine Hickford learned all about penguins in the class room and then down at Hokitika beach, where they found penguin footprints, but also dog, stoat and cat foot prints and vehicle tracks.

They worried about the little blue penguins on their beach and wanted to do something to share their concern with other local people.  They came up with the idea of creating a leaflet to tell people about the penguins and the threats they face.  The local SPCA Op Shop have been handing out the leaflets and it’s available on our website.  Kaniere School penguin leaflet
