A huge thank you to all those who took part in the annual west coast penguin survey. From Haast to Karamea, the results are coming in. A rough analysis indicates that the number of surveys finding more prints than last year was about the same number as those that found fewer prints. A couple remained the same. Lots of erosion was reported up and down the coast, with some low numbers attributed to stormy seas or strong winds. However, where the same stretch of beach was surveyed over three different days, the number of prints varied from 2 to 23, with calm conditions on each occasion.
Once all results are in, they will be compiled into a summary report and posted on the website. If you still have results to submit, please email them to info@bluepenguin.org.nz.
