The Trust will be visiting Ngakawau, 30km north of Westport, on Sunday 23rd February and you’re invited. All those with an interest in penguins and coastal wildlife will be in for a treat.
The West Coast Blue Penguin Trust invites all those interested in penguins and seabirds to come along to a Supporters meeting and forum at 2pm at Ngakawau Hall, when you’ll be able to find out all about the Trust’s various projects. Updates on projects will be provided including monitoring and surveying penguin colonies, the Cape Foulwind penguin and sooty shearwater project, tracking penguins at sea and a penguin proof fence north of Fox River among others.
Whether you’re a penguin expert or have a new interest in our coastal wildlife, the Trustees and staff would love to meet you at the meeting and share afternoon tea with you afterwards.
For those of you who are keen to help protect native birds, whether coastal or forest species, you won’t get any better advice on trapping than from Trust Ranger, Reuben Lane. Reuben will be presenting a trapping workshop at 6.00pm.
For your evening entertainment and edification, Reuben will present an illustrated talk about his work for the Trust and then Trust Chair, Kerry-Jayne Wilson, will present “South with the Academik Shokalskiy: science and adventure in Antarctica with an unexpected delay and diversion”. Kerry-Jayne has recently returned from a two month expedition to Antarctica, on which she was lead ornithologist. There will be plenty of stories and photos of the birds and the adventure, including being trapped in the ice over Christmas and the rescue, reported around the world. The talks will be followed by some nibbles and we hope you can join us for a chat.
We look forward to meeting you at Ngakawau Hall on Sunday 23rd February.
