Planting working bee, Cobden Island 10th May

Cobden breakwater wetland project photoAs part of the Cobden Wetland restoration (Northern Breakwater) project, DOC has been working to restore wetland habitat.  You are invited to join local DOC staff at 10am on Friday 10th May to help planting and join in a BBQ afterwards.

New channels have been excavated to help restore the wetland habitat and particularly increase whitebait spawning areas for the Grey River.  The banks of the new channels now need planting with suitable riparian species and you can help!

Meet at the floodwall at the end of Cardwell Street at 10am.  You will need gumboots, a spade and gloves.  Bring any refreshments you might need during planting and a BBQ will be provided when planting has been completed.  If it’s wet, planting will still go ahead but may be reduced according to conditions.

You can read more about the project here: Northern Breakwater Project

The West Coast Blue Penguin Trust supports the project and is more specifically involved in the coastal restoration and interpretation elements of the project.
