We had our first visit up to Granity School for Conservation Week in September 2019 along with a DOC Community Ranger and Kevin the taxidermy kororā and Toni the Tawaki. We looked at the erosion problem and flooding of the land around the school and the effects of climate change and the impact on penguins.
A second trip up to Granity School brought the whole school a penguin quiz, activities from our education resource book and some keen penguin rangers!
We were lucky enough to go back in 2020 with Mena the penguin detection dog and Alistair her handler for a visit to show them what Mena and Alistair did and to have a check for them, the penguin activity on their local beach.
We also thank Granity School for taking part in a short ANZ film about the work we do. The kids and staff were amazing in front of the camera and made the film crew’s life easy. Thanks Granity!
