St Canice’s School start their penguin journey

Education Ranger, Lucy, took a couple of trips up to St Canice’s School in Westport this term, to join them as they started their penguin project. A visit from penguin detection dog Mena started their journey off and then a classroom session from Education Ranger, Lucy, to learn more about blue penguins and their threats.

The two classes are hoping to make nest boxes and raise awareness in the community. This will be continued next year for a long term project with the Trust.

We are very much looking forward to working with them all next year. Thank you St. Canice’s!

The students completed an activity from our education resource book with Lucy where they must follow detailed instructions to draw a blue penguin at the same time as Lucy, learning about the birds at the same time.

They made a class list with the key facts they remembered about blue penguins.
