After our very successful trip to the beach a few weeks ago, where the students trained their Penguin Ranger skills, to be able to “Stop, Look, Listen, Freeze” when searching for penguins, Hokitika Primary’s Rūma Piwakawaka, year 2 class played a session of What’s in the box with Education Ranger, Lucy Waller, last week, to round off their penguin journey for the year.
It is a much loved activity of closing your eyes, putting your hand in the threat box and choosing something to pull out the box! Only the brave can accept the challenge!
We then share the threat we have chosen and say what it is and why it is in the threat box. The threats are separated into two groups and there is a final challenge for our detectives, to decide why I have separated them into the two groups and why.
This activity really helps the students to see what challenges little blue penguins face and what humans can do to help.
