Variability in the foraging range of blue penguins

The little or blue penguin Eudyptula minor is primarily an inshore forager generally feeding within 30 km of breeding sites during the nesting period. The Trust’s GPS foraging study is part of a wider research project and results have just been published.
Gari the penguin prepares to fly to Sydney

A nationally endangered tawaki or Fiordland crested penguin named Gari, is heading to Sydney to live at Taronga Zoo, after receiving care and treatment at Wellington Zoo’s Veterinary Hospital, The Nest Te Kōhanga for over two years.
Penguin enthusiast shares Antarctic experience

Trust Patron receives Forest & Bird’s top honour

Conservationist, photographer, publisher and Patron of the West Coast Penguin Trust, Craig Potton has received Forest & Bird’s highest honour with his naming as a Distinguished Life Member in recognition of more than four decades’ service to conservation.

Westland petrel videos

The Westland petrel is generally only seen at dusk near the breeding colonies south of Punakaiki but in a couple of videos, you can see them land, burrow and nest in the forest in the Paparoa National Park, as well as Te Papa scientists conducting their research into the foraging habits of these well-travelled seabirds.
